Fossils, Myths & Legends
Youth & Yore: Youth Summer Workshop
Following the brilliant success of our May Half Term workshop, Youth & Yore returns for another round of creative discovery — and this time, we’re digging deeper.
Throughout the year, we’re collecting stories from communities across Folkestone. In this summer edition of Youth & Yore, a specially selected group of 8–10 year olds will bring these stories to life, blending real history with imagination to help us develop a brand-new piece of family theatre.
This time, we’ll be diving into the theme of Fossils, Myths and Legends — we’ll be exploring local archaeology, forgotten histories and seaside magic.
Over the course of three jam-packed days, participants will take part in games, challenges, drama, storytelling, and playwriting. Expect laughter, discovery, and wild creativity — where the story ends up will be entirely up to you!
This workshop is part of a year-long project supported by Arts Council England and is a key step in creating Microwave Coven’s first-ever family play — devised with and for the communities of Folkestone.
About the Team
The workshop will be led by Annabel Betts, an actor and theatre-maker who has worked across the UK and internationally, specialising in family theatre and youth engagement. Annabel trained at LAMDA and has been awarded a Developing Your Creative Practice (DYCP) grant by Arts Council England to explore intergenerational co-creation, which forms the foundation of Youth & Yore. She is joined by visiting artists from Microwave Coven, including director/producer Molly Farley, whose work spans opera, puppetry, and new writing.
