Youth & Yore: May Half Term Workshop

This May half term, we’re marking one whole year since the beginning of our Youth & Yore project.

Over the past year, we’ve been gathering stories from across Folkestone: myths, legends, ghost stories, hidden histories and local secrets. Now, it’s time to bring them together!

In this celebratory edition, we’ll be inviting both young people and older members of the community to share their experiences of Folkestone and begin shaping the story of a brand-new play.

Across the workshop, participants will explore storytelling, drama, and devising, experimenting with different tales and perspectives as we start building a narrative. Expect playful collaboration, imagination, and the chance to help shape a piece of theatre that will soon be shared with local audiences.

This workshop is a key milestone in our year-long journey, supported by Arts Council England, as we move from the research stage into creation and transform our year of stories into a live performance.

About the Team
The workshop will be led by Annabel Betts, an actor and theatre-maker who has worked across the UK and internationally, specialising in family theatre and youth engagement. Annabel trained at LAMDA and has been awarded a Developing Your Creative Practice (DYCP) grant by Arts Council England to explore intergenerational co-creation, which forms the foundation of Youth & Yore. She is joined by visiting artists from Microwave Coven.
